Newport

One of Lincoln County's main destinations for visitors, as well as serving as Oregon's oceanography research center with Oregon State University's Hatfield Marine Science Center, and its research vessel, the Wecoma.

Facets Gem and Mineral Gallery

Kay Myers doesn’t mind when it’s windy and stormy on the Oregon coast.

In fact, she rather likes it. When the winds come out of the southwest, for either a storm or extended periods of time, Myers finds that her lapidary business starts booming with folks needing rock polishers and grit.

As the manager of FACETS Gem & Mineral Gallery, anytime sand is blown away and the gravel beds exposed, treasures await on the beaches.

Hallmark Resort in Newport

Experience the finest in premium Oregon Coast lodging at the Hallmark Resort Newport. Amenities include fitness room, room service, heated salt water pool, sauna and spa. Guest rooms' patios and balconies offer stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the area's lighthouses.

Hatfield Marine Science Center of OSU

Experimentation: if there was one word that would describe the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport that would be it.

From trying to figure out how plate tectonics work, to seeing how you compare to the wingspan of an albatross, expect to learn volumes while you walk through the many exhibits – several of which change regularly.

But Bill Hanshumaker, who is responsible for many of the exhibits in the Visitor Center, says it is more than just a place to see an octopus and touch things in simulated tide pools.

Newport Fresh Seafood

For the past few years, sustainability and locally-grown foods have been catch phrases in the culinary world.

Things like 100-mile breakfasts and sustainable farming practices and even fair market restaurants and foods have been cropping up all over the country.

Well if you want to have a meal, and know exactly where it came from, look no further than the bay front in Newport. Framed by the historic Yaquina Bay Bridge and Newport’s fishing fleet, Bay Boulevard is the place to go in Newport if you are looking for a lunch or dinner of fresh seafood.

Nye Beach in Newport

Sometimes the best finds are ones that are off the beaten path.

Nye Beach in Newport is one of those finds.

While hundreds of thousands of tourists and locals scour Highway 101 for the perfect spot, one of the best places to enjoy everything from dining to shopping to beach access is just a few blocks off the highway.

“A lot of people know about us,” said Berniece Hammon of the Nye Beach Merchants Association. “But folks from out of town might not get down here and they will really be missing something if they don’t.”

Ocean House Bed & Breakfast

We offer gracious lodging on the Oregon Coast in a picturesque beachfront setting. Spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the incomparable Oregon coastline can be seen from every window.

Oregon Coast History Museum

Newport is blessed with not one, but two museums less than a block from each other.

The Oregon Coast History Center is just that, a center for learning about the history of not only the development of Newport, but Native American traditions and cultures as well.

Loretta Harrison, executive director of the center, says there are two buildings to see when you visit, the Burrows House Museum and the Log Cabin Museum.

Oregon Undersea Gardens

There are many opportunities to touch, see and learn about sea life in Newport. From the Oregon Coast Aquarium to the Hatfield Science Center to the Undersea Gardens, there are several options to see wildlife up close and personal.

While not as educational – or as hands on – as either the Oregon Coast Aquarium or the Hatfield Marine Science Center, the Undersea Gardens are a nice departure if you find yourself on the historic bay front.

Ripley's Believe it or Not and Wax Works

Whether it’s Michael Jackson, or a guy with two pupils, meeting reproductions of Hollywood celebrities and freaks of nature are next door in the historic bay front of Newport.

The two attractions, The Wax Works and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!, are along the Bay Boulevard, and offer something unique from the normal Oregon coast experience. The two are even connected with a tchotchke type of tourist store with gift items, and an arcade in the same building. It’s easy to visit both, with parking on up the hill behind the second floor.
