If you are travelling to Eastern Oregon from Portland with kids, by the time you hit downtown Pendleton, you will be ready to play “Guido the pizza maker.”
Pendleton
Pendleton was incorporated in 1880 and is the county seat in Umatilla County. Pendleton is known as the birthplace of Pendleton Woolen Mills, one of the America's greatest lines of clothing and blankets, and for the Pendleton Round-Up, one of the most prestigious rodeos in North America.

Hamley's Steakhouse, Café and Store
It’s easy, driving along in your car, to completely miss the Western experience that is Pendleton.
If you don’t visit during the Pendleton Round-Up, it’s easy to visit the museums, visitor centers and businesses and totally miss the old western vibe the community offers.
That is, if you don’t visit Hamley’s.
Pendleton Woolen Mills
The fact of the matter is there just aren’t that many woolen mills – or any other type of textile mills – left in the United States.
With cheaper labor abroad, more and more companies send the work off-shore, where they can hire several workers, to one American worker.
However, there are still a few places left in the U.S. where you can see production of wool being woven into blankets, such as Pendleton Woolen Mills.
Red Lion Hotel Pendleton
Just off I-84 in view of Oregon's picturesque Blue Mountain, is the Red Lion Hotel Pendleton. Pendleton has much to offer visitors including the reputation as an antique hunters paradise, Pendleton Woolen Mills, Pendleton Underground Tours and the Wildhorse Casino and Golf Course.
Tamástslikt Cultural Institute
It’s one thing to read about history in a book, or see a movie, but it’s quite another to see, feel and walk through the history of a people from their unfiltered point of view.
That’s exactly what you get when you visit the Tamástslikt Cultural Institute outside of Pendleton on Interstate 84.
“The exhibit content was developed by experts from the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla Tribes,” said John Chess, development officer from the institute. “No outside experts or scholars were used to make sure this was the unfiltered history that was presented.”
